the One Flag Movement

Join us in creating a symbol of unity for Kansas City

.

One City. One Flag.

Kansas City has every reason to be divided. Our metro includes 2 states, 14 counties, and so many individual cities. We have geographic and political differences, even a history of division.

But the story of Kansas City isn’t the countless ways we’re divided, but that the divisions aren’t enough to separate us.

We’re not perfect, but we’re together. We're One City. We believe it's time to have a united image as well: One Flag that represents our unified home.

Join us in creating that One Flag for our One City.

One City. One Flag.

Giving back to Kc

After the One Flag Competition

After the design for the One Flag competition is over we'll produce flags & other products featuring Kansas City's One Flag design. Proceeds will be reinvested back to better the Kansas City metro in two ways:

  • Grants for Non-Profits — We'll provide grants to local non-profits on initiatives that better the 14 counties of the Kansas City metro. Our city is unified and One City, but we still have work to do. By partnering on local initiatives, One Flag will help fund change that needs to happen.
  • Startup Capital for Entrepreneurs — We'll also provide startup capital to entrepreneurs who create businesses that either better the Kansas City metro or provide jobs. By partnering with entrepreneurs, One Flag will help create a prosperous and thriving future for Kansas City.

We believe good design not only gives vision for what is, but also what can be. We desire the One Flag design to be an ongoing symbol of unity for the Kansas City metro, as well as used to practically better this city that we love.

How the One Flag Competition will Work

The One Flag Design Competition will be open to anyone from the 14 counties of the Kansas City metro age 18 and over to submit a flag design.

Flag Designs will be submitted according to set design criteria put forth by the One Flag team and outlined in our Designer Brief at the Designer Reception on June 8th at Lifted Spirits Distillery.

Designs will then be reviewed by the One Flag Judges Panel — a collection of KC civic, business, and non-profit influencers. The Judges Panel will be charged with selecting the top One Flag designs to share with the public for voting.

The winning design will be selected through a 3 week Public Voting period from 7/23 to 8/13, and the winning design will be revealed on Thursday, 8/17 at the One Flag Reveal Party.
